How to Choose a Beauty Device OEM/ODM Supplier: 12 Questions to Ask

A practical due-diligence checklist for brands and sellers sourcing at-home beauty devices from China.

Choosing the wrong supplier is the most expensive mistake in a beauty device launch: listings get removed, return rates climb, and re-tooling costs months. These are the questions we suggest every buyer asks, including when they talk to us.

Company and factory

  1. Who makes the product? Ask whether you are dealing with the factory, a company that owns or holds shares in a factory, or a trader. All can work, but you should know who controls quality and scheduling.
  2. Can I audit the line? A serious supplier will accept an on-site visit, a third-party audit or at least a live video walk-through of SMT, assembly, aging and packing.
  3. What is the real capacity? Ask for daily output per assembly line and how many units the aging room can test at once. Compare this with your peak order.

Product and documents

  1. Does the certificate name this exact model? Many certificates in this industry belong to another company or another model. Check the applicant, the model number and the standards listed.
  2. Which markets is the documentation ready for? EU (CE-EMC, RoHS, LVD), US (FCC), UK (UKCA) and others are separate. Light-based devices such as IPL can need medical device registration. See our IPL compliance guide.
  3. Is there a spec sheet with measured values? Look for power, voltage, battery capacity, dimensions and weight that match the sample you receive.

Customisation and IP

  1. What is the MOQ for each level of customisation? Logo printing, custom colours, a new housing and new functions all have different MOQs and costs.
  2. Who owns the mould and the design? Get mould ownership and exclusivity in writing before you pay a mould fee, and sign an NDA for new designs.

Quality and after-sales

  1. What is tested before shipment? Incoming material inspection, in-process checks, aging tests and final inspection should be standard. Ask which AQL level is used.
  2. What is the warranty and how are defects handled? Agree on the warranty period, spare parts and the process for returns.

Commercial terms

  1. What are the payment terms? 30% deposit / 70% before shipment is common. For large orders, an L/C protects both sides.
  2. How will lithium batteries be shipped? Products with lithium batteries need correct documents (MSDS/SDS, UN38.3 test summary) and a carrier that accepts dangerous goods.
